Dar es Salaam: The Road Dilemma
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's commercial capital, is the second fastest growing city in all of Africa coming right behind Lagos, Nigeria. Although the population is rapidly growing currently about 3.5 million, it is also rapidly declining. The number of deaths in roads, not including car accidents, is about 480 people in one year. In the city there are hundreds and hundreds of paved roads, but the number of road signs and speed bumps is drastically low for the number of roads. People all across Dar es Salaam have been hit by speeding cars and they have had enough. There have been multiple protests and petitions written to get safer roads. In the future, I believe that Tanzania's population will increase because the government is working to make roads safer. With safer roads, not as many people will die. This population increase will not be by that much, but the number of deaths on roads will drop severely.
